I am Marlene. I care about movies, words and emotion.

Movies make us feel things that we never felt before.

I want to connect with people through this shared experience.

Born in 1994, I grew up in Germany, lived as an English teacher in China, later moved to The Netherlands to for my first degree and now I'm becoming a filmmaker in Belgium.

Work

I'm curious about expressing emotion through film, discovering truth through introspection, or by observing the world around me. Identity and the relation between humans and nature interest me the most.

Film Club

This is a past project I'm still proud of. I used to run a film club for obscure films which entertain, educate and let us escape from reality. Especially important was that every film be supported by an extra activity which ameliorated the overall experience. For example, we watched Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1987) inside a pop-up jungle.

Writing

Werner Herzog said: Writing is finding myself. I write about movies and anything else that itches my mind - like pigeons, feeling like a grandma or the troubles of buying cat litter.

So that's the gist of it. Please stay and explore.

This site is part portfolio, part CV, part publishing tool, and part exhibitionism.

In any case, it is full of curiosity and experimentation, and I'm happy to have you along for the ride.

Do you have a project for me?
