Walden

  • Between the train tracks, the bike road and the highway, there’s a bit of nature. Against all odds, in between the concrete, in this grey no man’s land, flowers are growing. Serendipitous and abundant, like a lifeline…touch grass? But people are passing by these flowers. They have to go to the place, go do the thing.

Isn’t it ironic that worker bees won’t stop to smell the flowers? Aren’t they seeing this beauty? Aren’t they longing for it? It’s right there, yet so far.

The film explores the tension between following a beaten path even though there is a more beautiful one within reach. The tension between going to the office versus touching grass. The tension between doing what is expected and comfortable versus what is beautiful and natural.

Besides observing people on the road, it is a personal introspection about desire versus fear, comfort versus adventure, conformity versus self-determination.

It is about what happens if we stopped to smell the flowers.
